Sensory Learning Program

What is the Sensory Learning Program?
This is a multi sensory program using light, sound and motion to reintegrate connections between the brain and body.

Who would benefit from the program?
Due to the complexity of the human body and brain, we all have issues to work on. The Sensory Learning Program has made tremendous changes in people ranging from 2 years of age into adulthood. Light stimulates or “fires up” other functions in the brain integrating the nervous system through hypothalamic function which helps control energy balance, fluid balance, heat regulation, circulation and breathing etc. If we look specifically at learning difficulties in a middle or high school environment, we are expecting teenagers to have all these systems integrated and functionally optimal. When we don’t have this optimal utilization of skills, the energy needed to facilitate learning is excessive.

When is the program scheduled?
We begin this program every 2 weeks and can only accommodate 5 people in that timeframe. It is a 30 day program that begins in the facility for 12 consecutive days (including weekends) at one hour per day and continues at home with a light box to for 20 minutes, 2X/day.

What are our goals?
We use an initial test to determine a baseline. This consists of a threshold audiogram and a visual field test. We then measure progress by completing 3 more sets of testing throughout the duration of the program. Comparison and evaluation of these findings enable us to objectively observe system changes.

Our expectations
In order for your experience to be successful and, enjoyable one, we ask for the following: • You provide all the information that is requested so that we have a solid foundation of information from which to work
• You journal or track the changes on a daily basis. This does 2 things – 1. It allows us to ensure that changes are occurring and 2. it reminds you how far you have come
• It is important that you provide us with positive and negative experiences that you may be experiencing. This allows us individualize the program for your optimal benefit and to provide you with the best possible information to help in the transitions.

How does it work?
Light is transmitted in waves and each color of light has its respective wavelength. Because each color stimulates different parts of the brain, we know that specific colors evoke certain emotions, responses and behaviors from us. The other two aspects of the program involve motion and sound. The auditory system “hears” frequencies and interprets the perception of sound – we take this for granted assuming that all of us “hear” what we need to. The reality is that frequencies may not be “heard” so a sound becomes distorted and the interpretation may be in correct. We assume that by making it louder, the sound will be interpreted, not true; the ear will probably protect itself and block the frequency. The hearing- behavior relationship is a cause and effect one. By measuring and understanding what the frequency curves, we can affect and make changes by altering the information that the ear is receiving. Movement of the “table” activates the cerebellum, so that the eyes and vestibular system (movement) can work in a smooth, synchronous manner. The table is set to move at the rate of the cerebrospinal fluid which also impacts one’s breathing. This change in body rhythms facilitates the appropriate use of energy flow in the body. The Sensory Learning Program works by stimulating all these areas in a non invasive, relaxing manner. This allows healing, stimulation and learning.
